DEALING WITH STRESS

In the healthcare sector, many workers could suffer from occupational stress as a result of organizational factors, lack of skills, and low social support at work.
In this highly interactive workshop, participants from a variety of healthcare backgrounds will have the opportunity to share and learn key skills on how to develop healthy responses to stressful situations in healthcare and embrace the right mindset to relax, cope and thrive.

In this highly interactive and participative workshop, you will learn how to efficiently use and manage your time productively and efficiently.
After examining the key factors that influence workload management, the training will guide you through the steps towards improving productivity while having a better work-life balance.
Participants will deepen their knowledge of techniques of Planning, Prioritization, Delegation, Decision-making, Goal setting.
DEALING WITH DIFFICULT SITUATIONS AND CHALLENGING PEOPLE

Unpleasant and stressful it may be, dealing with difficult situations is a challenge every service provider and staff member will encounter. In this course, you will learn how to respond effectively, proactively, and in a supportive manner that can shift an unpleasant situation into one of mutual learning and future opportunities.
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
Course Date: Wednesday August 17 and Friday August 26, 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (to be rescheduled)

In this MHFA course developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, you will learn how to provide a support to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and how to have conversations that encourage a person to talk and reach out to other support. Participants will receive their certificates upon completion of the training.
GPA: GENTLE PERSUASIVE APPROACH
Course Date: Wednesday, August 24 Or Wednesday, August 31, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (includes a lunch break)

Best-in-class training for frontline healthcare workers caring for older adults with moderate to severe cognitive impairment, the GPA program will give participants valuable knowledge, skills and attitudes so that they feel more confident when caring for seniors with dementias.
During a full-day (7.5-hour) education session led by GPA Certified Coaches, you will learn how you can de-escalate and diffuse challenging behaviors while ensuring your personal safety and that of the resident.
FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS
FOOT HEALTH: THE ROLE OF THE SUPPORT WORKER
Course Date: Wednesday, August 17 – Must be completed by September 7
Delivery: Online, asynchronous, 20-25 hours

This self-directed course from Foot Canada is specifically designed for new and experienced support workers, and health care aides, provides a theoretical foundation which follows current best practice guidelines and evidence-based practice, including the Canadian Association of Support Worker’s (CASW) Standards, IPAC Canada, Diabetes Canada, Wounds Canada.
CPR/AED LEVEL C CANADIAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATION
(for Ottawa Residents Only)
Course Date: Thursday, August 18, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Delivery: Online and in-person

Certification on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) provides the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies and choking for adults, children, and babies depending on the level of CPR chosen.
Compulsory certification in healthcare settings, the course meets legislation requirements for provincial worker safety and insurance boards, and includes the latest CPR guidelines and training in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
FOOD HANDLER CERTIFICATION
Course Date: Wednesday, August 17 – Must be completed by September 7
Delivery: Online, synchronous (instructor lead)

In this self-directed course developed by the Canadian Institute of Food Safety, you will achieve nationally recognized Food Handler Certification in the most convenient way within 30 days to complete the training at your own pace and pass the exam, interactive learning activities, and same-day certification.
